Excursion from Warsaw - where to go?

Residents of Warsaw have a very wide range of possibilities when it comes to looking for interesting tourist attractions in their immediate vicinity. The capital city is situated in a historically rich region, where you can find a whole lot of interesting places. It is worth knowing about, because it seems that the so-called local travel - that is, sightseeing in one's own region and getting to know its charms better - still does not enjoy enough popularity in Poland.

However, this is a serious mistake. We often almost forcefully search for attractions in distant regions, completely unaware of how unusual treasures are located right under our noses. Such a local trip is a perfect choice for anyone who wants to spend a sunny, free from work day in a pleasant and interesting way. Near Warsaw we will find a lot of ideal places to do this, which is worth knowing about. The first interesting proposition - despite appearances, not only for military fans - is Modlin Fortress, located right next to Warsaw. It is located in the fork of two great rivers: the Vistula River and the Narew River.

Several hundred years ago, this point was considered to be strategically extremely important and perfectly suitable for defending against the enemy. The first great fortress was built here in the times of Napoleon, which in the nineteenth century was systematically expanded under Russian rule. During the September Campaign, the Polish crew of the fortress fought a fierce battle with the German army to defend their positions. Today, Modlin Fortress is one of the most interesting buildings of this type in Poland and perhaps also in Europe. The building has been fully adapted to the needs of tourists. You can walk in peace among the old fortifications and admire the huge walls. There are also many walking trails in the area that lead through the woods and over the local rivers, which are ideal for a short escape from the hustle and bustle of the big city.

At a distance of about 120 km from Warsaw there is Dęblin. Relatively small city, which is, however, well-known to every aviation enthusiast. In particular, the famous Aviation Museum is located here. Dęblin has long been closely associated with the Polish air force - already before the war there was a school here, from which the most famous Polish pilots came out. Another important attraction is the Dęblin Fortress, one of the most important military facilities in pre-war Poland. The forts here have retained their former character and perfectly reflect the atmosphere of the pre-war Polish Army. Oak wood is not only the army, however. Among other things, there is a beautiful Mniszech palace. The building itself is impressive and surrounded by a charming park complex.

Dęblin is situated on the Vistula River itself - so the city is full of beautiful trails, which in sunny weather we can walk a little and just enjoy the peace and quiet. One of the most "classic" proposals for a short trip from Warsaw is Kazimierz Dolny. It is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Poland, so it would be difficult to find someone who would not at least associate this city. Located in a beautiful place on the Vistula River, Kazimierz Dolny has to offer a lot of great attractions. Particularly noteworthy is its market square, which is a perfect example of the development of a medieval commercial town. On the Vistula River there are also many beautiful promenades, which we can walk on in good weather.

One of the most unique places in central Poland is Arkadia, a village located in the district of £owicz. In particular, there are many classicist buildings dating back to the 18th century. An obligatory part of the trip to this place is a walk in the local garden, which is connected with the palace complex. From Warsaw in a relatively short time you can also reach larger cities, such as Radom or Lodz. At first glance there is nothing interesting to see there, but these are only appearances. Especially Łódź has a lot to offer, especially beautiful monuments connected with the industrial past of the city. The idea for people who want to avoid larger cities and prefer to spend time in the bosom of nature are Masuria, located relatively close to Warsaw, delight their landscapes and numerous lakes and forests. A weekend outing to such a wonderful neighborhood will be a huge injection of energy and good humour for us!
